Key Features
This pair of Q Acoustics Q 5040 Compact Floorstanding Speakers is part of the 5000 Series and have been designed to perform for stereo hi-fi or as part of a wider home cinema system. Its most noteworthy feature is the addition of Continuous Curved Coneā¢ mid-bass drivers. This newly developed design, first featured in the Concept range, takes the greatest characteristics from both flare and straight type cone drivers and delivers the best mid and bass performance yet from the brand at this level.
These CCC drivers symmetrically flank a hermetically sealed tweeter which also takes design cues from the Concept range, featuring dome fabric and a compact neo-motor. These three drive units are isolated within the front baffle. This black baffle can be found across all four colour variants of the 5040 floorstanders, providing a range uniformity as well as a stylish contrast to the cabinet. This pair also comes with top-down adjustable spikes and floor protection so you can level your speakers as desired without damaging delicate flooring.

"Expressive dynamics, excellent clarity and a premium look make Q Acoustics' 5040 floorstanders a fantastic set of speakers"
"The Q Acoustics 5040 are even-handed performers that simply step out of the way of the music and let it shine. When partnered with care they deliver a wonderfully expressive and insightful performance that’s class-leading at this level."
First seen in Q Acoustics’ flagship Concept range, the Continuous Curved Cone (CCC) design has now been introduced to the 5000 Series to eradicate limitations arising from straight and flared cones. Thorough multi-disciplinary research and development aimed to blend the most desirable characteristics of both the straight cone’s bass performance and the flared cone’s mid-range control. Precision computer modelling was used to create the CCC profile. The result is a drive unit with superior dispersion, frequency and amplitude linearity. Moreover, the CCC is more resilient to modulation by standing waves within the cabinet. Delivering tighter bass with superior dynamic range and detail means you can be more flexible when installing your speaker without loss of quality.
The minimalist design of the Q 5040 is reminiscent of the latest Q Acoustic Concept Series. Baffle fronts are laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim, not only providing a vibration-damping effect but also creating an eye-catching contrast to the surrounding satin and wood finishes. As one of the largest speakers in the range, the cabinets are constructed from 20mm MDF. Baffles across all models are made from 25mm HDF for greater durability. The lightweight open-frame grille design maximises transparency and is attached using magnetic fixings for an attractive, acoustically transparent display. The tower models also come with adjustable spikes and protective spike shoes to prevent floor damage, featuring top-adjustable anodized aluminium stabilisers for easy levelling.
Q Acoustics has equipped the Q 5040 and 5050 Floorstanding Speakers with HPE™ (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) technology to address cabinet resonance issues which often plague taller loudspeakers. By converting pressure to velocity, this technology reduces the overall pressure gradient within the enclosure, which helps prevent the speakers from resonating at a single, problematic frequency.
Point-to-Point (P2P) bracing, unlike conventional systems, targets specific areas of the speaker enclosure needing stiffening without transferring unwanted energy or affecting cabinet structure modality. This enhances the Q 5040's rigidity, improving stereo imaging focus and soundstage accuracy. P2P bracing system is the result of careful research and engineering by the design team at Q Acoustics.
Q Acoustics' new 5040 Floorstanding Speakers feature modified second-order crossovers with a 2.5 kHz crossover frequency. All models in the 5000 series, including the 5040, have a nominal load impedance of 6 Ohms and use high-quality components in their crossover circuitry, including metallized polyester film capacitors, low saturation air core inductors, and bifilar wound wire-wound resistors to minimize parasitic inductance.
