"This is an example of the last turntable you ever buy. It’s good out the box and becomes great with a little work. It’s well made, painless to live with and makes vinyl enjoyable. For these many reasons, the latest member of the Technics family comes Highly Recommended.

An Inherited High-End Motor
The Technics SL-1500C Hi-Fi Turntable features a coreless direct drive motor; a component inherited from the more elaborate, high-end SL-1200 turntable series and SL-1000R model. Within the motor, there lies a single rotating rotor and a coreless static stator. Rotor magnets have been enhanced for greater force, while the space between the rotor and stator promotes higher torque. Besides bringing high-end sound, the benefits of such a motor include heightened rotation stability. This leads to fewer ‘cogging’ irregularities while spinning and more accurate sound reproduction.
Durable and Dependable Control
With this direct-drive turntable system, long-lasting components and motor control technology contribute to great dependability. The technology which controls motor speed within the SL-1500C has been passed down from efficient Panasonic (Technics’ parent company) Blu-ray players before being refined for use with turntables. The sophisticated control technology keeps motor rotation stable for precise speed and pitch.
Accurate and Auto-Lifting Tonearm
As has become somewhat of a tradition with Technics, the SL-1500C tonearm is S-shaped. More specifically, in this model, a static-balance universal S-shape tonearm with a light weight and high rigidity is used. These qualities help the all-important tonearm trace the grooves of your record collection and pick up their signals with high accuracy. Ultimately, this results in truer sound reproduction. As well as being designed for accuracy, the SL1500C’s tonearm can automatically lift at the end of a record (when the auto-lift function is turned on). Not only does this make it easier for you to use, but it reduces the wear down of your records and stylus.
Designed to Dampen
Multiple parts of the SL-1500C contribute to the suppression of unwanted resonance. These include: rubber feet which decouple the turntable chassis from the furniture beneath; a firm die-cast chassis constructed with ABS and fibreglass for complete inflexibility; and a spring and rubber insulator to shut out external vibration and minimise rattling sounds.
Cartridge and Phono Stage
Built into the SL-1500C, you’ll find an equalising phono amplifier which works with moving magnet cartridges. This amp’s power supply is separated from that of the turntable’s motor and controls to limit the noise by-product. By offering this within the turntable itself, Technics enable you to connect devices which lack phono inputs.
As well as a phono equaliser, the SL-1500C includes a phono cartridge so you can dive straight in once your turntable arrives. The included cartridge for this model is the Ortofon 2M Red. To facilitate cartridge swaps, should you wish to upgrade, the SL-1500C’s tonearm height adjusts within a 6mm range and an included counterweight lets you amend the tracking force to suit other cartridge specifications.
