Each speaker is a three-way standmount with hand-matched wood veneers in either black, mahogany, or walnut finishes. The Linton is part of Wharfedale's Heritage Series, which celebrates the brand's history by recreating famous models from the past using contemporary techniques and materials. The Linton, a classic Wharfedale model, was viewed as a serious hi-fi speaker that was also fairly affordable. The new Linton retains these characteristics while infusing them with modern improvements.
The Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers are a celebration of decades of pioneering research, dating back to 1965. While the new model retains the original's well-known rich and warm sound quality, it enhances performance in every area. It delivers deeper and better-defined bass, clear and open midrange, and dynamic, expansive scale that brings music to life. It's a sound unlike most speakers offer today and one that prompts you to revisit your music collection again and again.
Design-wise, these heritage speakers have a three-way configuration including a large bass driver with a 200mm Kevlar cone mounted on a rigid, die-cast chassis. This is supported by dual ports on the rear of the cabinet. Above the bass driver sits a 135mm midrange driver, also featuring a woven Kevlar cone and housed within an internal enclosure. A 25mm fabric-dome tweeter with a high-flux ferrite magnet handles high frequencies, ensuring a fuller coverage of the upper end.
To retain an authentic vintage look, the modern Lintons sport hand-matched wood veneers and come with matching stands. Their boxy form, enhanced by equally box-like stands, is reminiscent of their predecessor, helping them look authentically vintage. The warm-coloured wood selected for the walnut and mahogany finishes also fits with the warm sound of these speakers and recalls the original models. However, if you have a preference for cooler-toned furniture, the black finish may suit you better.
Each model in the range has an optional purpose-made stand available to purchase separately. These stands are made to match your speaker finish perfectly while placing them at the optimal listening height. The rigid metal frame negates all unwanted vibrations and resonances, plus there's even space below for storing your 12" vinyl and other hi-fi accessories.
