Independent, Low-noise Circuit Path
The TEAC UD-505-X Preamplifier uses a sophisticated dual monaural circuit design, ensuring that functions throughout the conversion process can take place independently of each other in separate, yet synchronised channels. From the dual oversized, high capacity toroidal transformers, through the DAC circuits and all the way to the output terminals, single channel processing ensures that unwanted noise is kept to an absolute minimum, with a consistent power supply regardless of demand. Boasting an excellent S/N ratio and total harmonic distortion below 0.002 .
High-Quality D/A Conversion
The dual monaural nature of the circuitry means that two D/A converter chips are built into each left and right channel. Using class leading ESS technology, these two ES9038Q2M SABRE32 Reference DACs ensure vastly diminished jitter and accurate USB data conversion up to 768kHz/32bit PCM and 22.5MHz DSD, bringing you closer than ever to the original recording. The two on-board clocks allow lightning fast sampling rates for 44.1kHz or 48kHz signals, with a BNC terminal to accommodate an external master clock generator for exponentially higher 10MHz sampling.
Output Signal Consistency
Once the conversion process has taken place, the analogue section of the UD-505-X guarantees the consistency of the current by introducing a buffer amp into the circuit path; The TEAC-HCLD 2 (an upgrade of the previous High Current Line Driver) bolsters the current supply. This HCLD enables the use of a balanced-drive headphone output, broadening compatibility with high-end, high-impedance products. Highley adjustable, volume control has also been integrated directly into the signal path in the form of a low noise four channel variable gain amp, adjustable in 0.5dB degrees.
A Headphone’s Full Potential
The TEAC UD-505-X comes with everything you need for high-quality personal listening. Stereo 6.3mm L/R channel headphone outputs along with a 4.4mm 5-pole jack are ergonomically positioned front and centre of the interface for easy listening. This enables the user to tap into their music connection in new and intuitive ways for highly expressive, audiophile headphone playback.
Of course, a standard unbalanced connection can be made via the left or right jack; The UD-505-X can even power two sets of headphones (with shared impedance and efficiency specs) for a joined listening experience, but where the UD-505-X really shines is through its balanced connections. The TEAC-HCLD2 circuit, key to the analogue output section, enables dedicated amplification for balanced drive connections, worthy of high-impedance headphone connections.
At its peak, active-ground drive mode enhances every whispered word and nuanced detail by driving the ground at 0V, lowing the noise level to optimal conditions. Unwanted sound is greatly diminished, including the electrical hum present in all system. With this impressive S/N ratio, you’ll be sure to hear things you’ve never heard before, even in your favourite songs.
Diligent Design
What’s the use of all this enhanced technology if it doesn’t have the physique to support it? The UD-505-X is an example of TEAC’s engineering prowess. Strong 8mm panels prevent the all-metal chassis from warping and defend from external electromagnetic forces found in most domestic environments. This contributes to the low noise level, making sure the internal circuits remain uninterrupted whilst in use.
The three feet have been placed strategically to the support key components within the unit and are specially designed so that, whilst they appear loose when lifted, they allow the feet to sit securely even on relatively uneven surfaces. This design also reduces intrusions from external vibrations and contributes to the overall isolation of the UD-505-X.
