The 2M Black uses a Nude Shibata stylus—the same type found on Ortofon’s Cadenza Black moving coil model. This precision-cut shape allows for a wider contact area with the groove wall, improving high-frequency tracking and reducing distortion. It captures the fine textures in vocals, strings, and percussion that other stylus profiles can miss, giving you a more lifelike soundstage.
At the core of the cartridge is Ortofon’s split pole pin design, upgraded with silver-plated copper wire. This design minimises inductive distortion, flattens the frequency response, and improves output uniformity—delivering moving coil-like clarity from a moving magnet cartridge. The result is excellent stereo separation and tonal balance across the full frequency spectrum.
The cartridge body is constructed from a unique Lexan DMX Piano Black composite developed for Ortofon’s higher-end cartridges. This material provides structural rigidity while damping internal vibrations.
